According to media reports, beginning from December 10 thousands of Indonesian workers joined protests demanding higher wages following the recent increase in fuel prices. In November, the Indonesian government increased fuel prices by more than 30% in order to reduce the country’s energy subsidies and shift financing to plans to improve the country’s infrastructure and for irrigation projects.

In addition to seeking higher wages, labor unions also reportedly want the government to terminate outsourcing and have requested compulsory pensions and health insurance improvements.
