According to media reports, INEOS and Shell Chemicals signed a shale gas supply agreement. Under the new deal, INEOS will supply ethane to Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) located in the UK as of mid-2017 from its new £450 million ($679 million) ethane import terminal and storage facility at Grangemouth. The FEP is owned and managed by ExxonMobil while Shell Chemicals has 50% in capacity rights.

The FEP is reportedly one of Europe’s largest ethylene plants. Construction of the plant began in 1981 and the plant was officially opened in 1986. It was the first plant specifically designed to use natural gas liquids from the North Sea as feedstock. The plant has a production capacity of 830,000 tons/year of ethylene.
