India extends nationwide COVID-19 lockdown until May 3
The prime minister also announced that some states and districts could be allowed to resume necessary activities if they have shown to have avoided an outbreak.
“Until April 20, every town, every police station, every district, every state will be evaluated on how much the lockdown is being followed. The extent to which the region has protected itself from coronavirus will be noted. However, this permission will be conditional, and the rules for going out will be very strict,” Prime Minister Modi said.
India first ordered a 21-day nationwide lockdown on March 24, limiting the movement of 1.3 billion people.
