According to media reports, India’s state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corp aims to raise the capacity of its Bina refinery in central India to about 310,000 barrels/day from its current capacity of 120,000 barrels/day in four or five years’ time in order to meet the growing domestic fuel demand. The company is initially planning to shut its refinery in June-September 2018 for about a month to expand its capacity to 156,000 barrels/day.

Meanwhile, the company is currently working on increasing the capacity of its Kochi refinery in Southern India to 310,000 barrels/day by September this year. The capacity of the refinery is expected to be raised further to 400,000 barrels/day in the long run.

All these expansions are included in India’s long term target to increase its total refinery capacity by 35% to 6.2 million.
