According to media reports, India’s state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and GAIL India are jointly considering building a new petrochemical plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. The companies are considering a two-way joint venture after an earlier plan that would have also included France’s Total, Indian Oil and the Lakshmi N Mittal Group fell through because of unsupportive global demand dynamics.

No details have been given so far as to the cost, capacity and equity structure of the project while GAIL is expected to undertake the feasibility studies and site selection in the event that the parties reach a final decision for the new project. The planned project is reportedly slated to use natural gas as a feedstock.
