India’s Ratnagiri refinery, petchem project delayed
Sources cited land allocation issues as the reason for the three-year delay, with project promoters expecting to acquire the 15,000 acres of land needed for the complex by 2019. Work on the $44 billion project is expected to begin in 2020.
The proposed refinery is expected to be the largest single location refinery complex in the world upon its completion, with a capacity to process 1.2 million barrels of crude oil and produce around 18 million tons/year of petrochemical products.
Saudi Aramco and ADNOC own 50% of the project while the remaining shares are owned by the Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (RRPCL), a consortium of Indian national oil companies.
