Indonesia cuts interest rates again by 0.25%

According to media reports, Indonesia’s central bank cut its key interest rates for a third time this year to boost economic growth. The bank lowered its basic policy rate by 25 basis points to 6.75%, in line with economists’ expectations while also cutting the overnight deposit rate facility and lending facility rate to 4.75% and 7.25%, respectively.

Economists commented that the soft inflation rate and a strengthening rupiah enabled the central bank to further cut the interest rates. Last month, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo said that the country’s interest rates should decrease further in order to better compete with its neighbors.
