According to market sources, Styrindo Mono Indonesia is planning to shut its No.1 styrene line at Merak after production at its No.2 line stabilizes. The No 2 line was restarted in late November following maintenance. The No.1 plant has a production capacity of 100,000 tons/year while the capacity of the No 2 line stands at 240,000 tons/year.

The company cited poor margins as the main reason behind its decision to shut the No 1 unit. SMI is planning to reduce its export allocations for 2015 given unsatisfactory margins.
