Indonesia’s central bank keeps interest rates steady

According to media reports, Indonesia’s Central Bank, Bank Indonesia, kept its main rates steady on August 18. The bank held its policy rate unchanged at 7.50%, keeping interest rates steady for a sixth consecutive month. Bank Indonesia’s decision not to change its interest rates was in line with analysts’ expectations, according to a survey conducted by Reuters.

The bank reportedly aims to support the rupiah rather than easing rates to spur growth as the currency posted further declines recently against US dollar, making it among Asia’s worst performing currencies this year.
