Indonesia tightens import regulations for PE and PP resins

Indonesia is tightening its import regulations for PE and PP resins, requiring importers to apply for annual quotas starting from March 10, 2024. The announcement, made by the trade ministry on December 11, has surprised both domestic and international players in the market, leaving a short 90-day window for importers to secure their quotas.

The new policy extends import quotas from PP block copolymers to other PE and PP grades.

This sudden change has sparked increased interest in imports, especially among converters, fearing potential delays in the application process. Players anticipate a rise in Indonesia’s PE and PP demand in early 2024, driven by converters gearing up production for the Eid al-Fitr festival in April.
