According to the data from Destatis, Germany’s industrial production was up by 2.2% in February on a monthly basis, at the same pace recorded in January, and beat the expectations of a fall of 0.2%. The industrial output was also up by 2.5% year-on-year after a drop of 0.5% in January.

The increase in the country’s output in February was driven by an improvement in production in construction and energy sectors, which increased respectively by 13.6% and 0.6%. Excluding energy and construction, output rose by 0.9% in February month-on-month. The production of capital goods, consumer goods and intermediate goods posted respective monthly increases by 1.1%, 1.4% and 0.4% in February.

However, industrial production was down in France in February by 1.6% month-on-month after a drop of 0.2% in January, the data from Insee showed, while it was flat from a year earlier. The manufacturing sector was down by 0.6% on a monthly basis and by 0.5% annually.

The monthly fall in industrial production was mainly driven by a decrease in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply and waste management by 7.9% after a rise of 4.6% in January as well as a drop of 4.8% in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products. However, the construction jumped by 8.1% on a monthly basis after a decline of 3.6% in January.
