According to media reports, Iran and Germany are planning to broaden oil, gas and petrochemical ties. Ali Majedi, Iranian ambassador to Germany, reported that Iran will begin exporting petrochemical products to Germany while German companies will export technology to Iran. The two countries reportedly are ready to collaborate in both upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry.

On July 14, Iran and six major powers - the United States, France, Britain, China, Russia and Germany- initially reached an agreement over the Iranian nuclear program in Vienna. The deal envisages easing sanctions on Iran by the EU and the US, including lifting restrictions on Iranian exports of petrochemicals.
