Iran and Italy to strengthen petrochemical ties

According to media reports, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh met with Italy’s Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni and Italy’s Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi in order to discuss development of oil, gas and petrochemical project between the two countries. Zanganeh reportedly commented that Iran’s oil industry would benefit from cooperation with Italian companies, especially in projects that are being planned in the Caspian Sea, in order to increase oil recovery from Iranian fields. The minister also stated that Italian refineries used Iranian oil before sanctions were imposed and that Iran can begin exporting oil to Italy following the anticipated removal of sanctions.

Italian Foreign Minister Gentioloni, meanwhile, commented that a new period of cooperation has started between the two countries following their meeting with the Iranian minister. The minister stated that Italy is planning to cooperate with Iran in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and is also willing to produce equipment for Iran’s oil industry.
