According to media reports, Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko stated that Iran is about to complete the preparation of the necessary documents for the first phase in order to participate in the free trade zone (FTZ) with the Eurasian Economic Union. Iran will be ready to ink the agreement by 2017. The free trade zone is expected to increase trade between the regions.

Iran and the EEU, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan had started to work on the agreement in late December of last year.
