According to media reports, a new round of talks between Russia’s Lukoil and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) have started in order to reach an agreement for the development of two oil fields located in southwestern Iran. The oil fields under discussion are Mansouri and Ab Teimour.

NIOC Managing Director Ali Kardor was quoted as saying that a confidentiality agreement regarding the technical studies of the two Iranian oilfields had been signed earlier. He also noted that while the two countries have not been able to cooperate seriously despite the many opportunities for development in Iran, this confidentiality agreement could help expand bilateral ties.

Lukoil reopened its Tehran office after international sanctions against Iran were lifted in January 2016.
