According to media reports, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) signed a short term contract with Italy’s oil major Eni to sell crude oil, under which NIOC sold one cargo of oil to Eni. The two companies are reportedly in a negotiation process in order to sign a long term deal, which will enable NIOC to export 100,000 barrels of crude oil to Eni.

Eni was a regular importer of Iranian crude from NIOC before the sanctions.

NIOC had also signed a similar contract with Italy’s Saras in May 2016, which was expected to increase the oil exports to the Italian company to 65,000 barrels/day.
