Iran to start new petchem projects by Feb 2017

According to media reports, Iran is planning to launch four petrochemicals projects by February 2017. The new projects reportedly include a MEG unit of Morvarid Petrochemical Plant, Entekhab Petrochemical Plant with a polyethylene capacity of 250,000 tons/year, Takhte-Jamshid Petrochemical Plant with a polystyrene capacity of 50,000 tons/year and phase II of Kavian Petrochemical Plant which is expected to increase the facility’s ethylene production capacity by 1 million tons/year.

The reports also revealed that the polyethylene unit of Kurdistan Petrochemical Complex is planned to start up by March 21, 2017.

Iran also signed agreements with Japan’s Sujitz and France’s Total and Royal Dutch Shell to enhance the petrochemical industry in the country and is currently in the negotiation process with three other European countries for the same purpose.
