Italy’s Eni proposes a new restructuring plan for Versalis

According to media sources, Italy-based energy company Eni has presented a new production conversion plan for basic chemicals to MIMIT (Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy) during a meeting held in Rome on December 3, 2024. The plan was designed to drive significant industrial development in a struggling sector, while maintaining the company’s environmental commitments.

The restructuring plan for Versalis, Eni’s chemicals subsidiary, reiterated that the crisis facing the sector is structural and irreversible. During the meeting, the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, also underlined the importance of addressing the current industrial crisis while attempting to preserve production sites and maintain employment levels.

At the end of the session, the establishment of two technical tables for the regions of Puglia and Sicily was confirmed, as these are the areas most affected by the restructuring. These two regions will eventually merge into a single table. In January, a shared document detailing this conversion is expected to be prepared, providing more information on investments, schedules, authorizations, and the industry impact.
