According to data from Italy’s statistics institute ISTAT, the country’s industrial output climbed 1.9%% on the month in January, beating economists’ initial estimates calling for a 0.7% increase in a survey conducted by Bloomberg. On a yearly basis, the country’s industrial output rose 3.9% when adjusted for working days. The January figures represented the biggest monthly increase since August 2011.

The data showed that output of consumer goods, investment goods, intermediate goods and energy products all posted gains from the previous month.

According to a separate report from ISTAT, Italy’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 11.5% in the fourth quarter from the previous quarter. ISTAT also expressed that they expect GDP to grow by 0.1% on a quarterly basis in the first three months of this year.
