Italy’s industrial output unexpectedly falls 0.6% in May

According to media reports, data released by Istat shows that Italy’s industrial output unexpectedly fell 0.6% in May after rising in April. Economists’ estimates called for an increase of 0.1% for May. Industrial output had risen 0.4% a month earlier.

On a yearly basis, industrial output also dropped 0.6% in May from a 1.8% increase in April.
Energy output decreased 5.9% and capital goods declined 1.5% while production of intermediate goods increased 1.8%.

In the first five months of 2016, overall industrial output was up 1.3% compared with the same period of last year.
