According to data released by Italy’s Transport Ministry, new car sales rose 8.6% on the year to reach 132,929 vehicles in October on the back of higher sales for Fiat Chrysler and major German brands. The increase was also driven by a recovering economy and an increased number of people deciding to replace their cars.

Car sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles rose 10.8% while Fiat’s sales increased 16% in October. Sales for Germany’s BMW rose 27.2% while sales for Mercedes increased 26.8% and Volkswagen-owned Audi’s sales posted a gain of 18.1% in October. However, demand for Volkswagen slid 6.9%.
