Italy’s retail sales posted a seasonally adjusted monthly increase of 0.3% in August after increasing by a similar amount in the preceding month, according to data from the country’s statistics office, Istat. On a yearly basis, meanwhile, retail sales increased 1.3% in August, slower than July’s gain of 1.6%.

Istat also stated in a separate report that Italy’s industrial orders fell in August after posting gains in the previous two months due to weaker domestic and foreign demand. Industrial orders declined 5.5% from a month earlier on a seasonally adjusted basis. Foreign orders slipped 2.8% on the month while domestic demand contracted 7.4% month over month in August.
