Italy’s total polymer imports in Jan-April highest in 19 years
The top five polymer exporters to Italy in the first four months were Germany (288,474 tons), France (269,806 tons), Belgium (244,095 tons), Spain (131,972 tons) and the Netherlands (104,128 tons).
On a monthly basis, Italy’s total polymer imports dropped by around 2.6% in April to 469,187 tons. They were up by 4.4% on a yearly basis, meanwhile.
In a product-based breakdown, Italy’s HDPE imports retreated by around 5% in April when compared to the previous month to 62,278 tons. However, HDPE imports were up by 7.5% on year. Germany remained on top of the list of the major HDPE suppliers to Italy with 13,261 tons in April, followed by Belgium (8,463 tons) and Hungary (5,158 tons).
Italy’s total LDPE imports in April were up by around 2% from a month earlier to be reported at 54,570 tons while they rose more visibly by 9.2% from 2018. Belgium overtook France’s place to become Italy’s top supplier with 9,008 tons in April, followed by France (8,634 tons).
Italy’s LLDPE imports were up by 2% on a month over month basis at 30,305 tons in April while they rose by around 9% compared to the same month of 2018. Belgium remained as the top supplier to Italy with 7,980 tons, followed by France (5,159 tons) and Germany (2,327 tons) in April.
Imports for homo-PP were down by 6% from March to 91,828 tons in April. They were up by 1.7% on year, meanwhile. Germany was the top supplier with 18,530 tons, followed by France (12,185 tons) and Saudi Arabia (9,456 tons).
PP copolymer imports were down by around 1.5% month over month and 4.5% year over year to 49,195 tons in April. Germany remained as the top exporter to Italy with 9,720 tons, followed by Belgium (9,603 tons) and France (6,132 tons).
Italy’s PVC imports were down by 11.6% on a month over month basis in April to 55,292 tons. France stood at the top of the PVC import list with 18,013 tons, followed by Germany (9,763 tons) and Spain (4,298 tons).
Total imports for PS plunged by 23% from a month earlier to 14,541 tons in April. On a yearly basis, April imports also fell by 19%. France became the top PS exporter to Italy with 3,270 tons, followed by Belgium (3,266 tons).
Italy’s total EPS imports in April slumped by 30% from the previous month while they were also down by 18% from the same period of 2018 at 8,594 tons. Germany was the top supplier with 2,382 tons, followed by France (1,873 tons).
The country’s ABS imports in April rose by around 8.5% to reach 11,586 tons. South Korea was at the top of the ABS import list at 4,334 tons, followed by Belgium (1,736 tons), meanwhile.
As for PET, total imports surged by 35% on a monthly basis in April while they were also up by 12% year on year at 54,292 tons. India became the top PET supplier to Italy with 10,565 tons, followed by Korea (7,206 tons) and China (6,973 tons).
