Italy’s total polymer imports plunge by 32% in August
The top five polymer exporters to Italy from January to August 2019 were Germany (553,004 tons), France (520,276 tons), Belgium (460,993 tons), Spain (258,765 tons) and the Netherlands (199,359 tons).
In a product-based breakdown, Italy’s HDPE imports for August plunged by around 27% on the month while they were up by 10% on the year to 51,263 tons. Germany remained on top of the list of the major HDPE suppliers to Italy with 9,533 tons in August, followed by Saudi Arabia (6,719 tons) and Hungary (4,742 tons).
Italy’s total LDPE imports in August plunged by 36% from a month earlier to be reported at 35,869 tons while they were up by more than 11% from August 2018. France was Italy’s top supplier with 7,486 tons in August, followed by the Netherlands (4,677 tons).
LLDPE imports were down by 35% on a month over month basis at 17,058 tons in August while they were also slightly down compared to the same month of 2018. Belgium remained as the top supplier to Italy with 5,574 tons, followed by Qatar (1,874 tons) while the third position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands with 1,594 tons in August.
As for mLLDPE, total imports in August fell by 29% on the month while they were up by 16% from the same month of 2018 at 18,888 tons. The United States was the top supplier with 5,693 tons, followed by Belgium (3,279 tons) and France (2,489 tons).
Imports for homo-PP were down by 32% from July to 63,553 tons in August. They were slightly up by 2% from August 2018, meanwhile. Germany was the top supplier with 14,319 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (9,237 tons) and France (7,160 tons).
PP copolymer imports plunged by more than 38% month over month to 35,616 tons in August. Germany became Italy’s top supplier with 6,537 tons, followed by Belgium (6,483 tons) and Austria (5,213 tons).
Italy’s PVC imports were down by more than 53% on the month while they were down by 6% on the year to 26,731 tons in August. France remained at the top of the PVC import list with 8,956 tons, followed by Germany (5,057 tons) and Spain (3,372 tons).
Total imports for PS plunged by more than 30% from a month earlier to 9,251 tons in August. On a yearly basis, August imports were also down by 18%. Germany was the top PS exporter to Italy with 2,318 tons, followed by France (2,258 tons).
Italy’s total EPS imports in August fell sharply by 40% from the previous month while they dropped by around 8% from the same period of 2018 at 7,124 tons. The Netherlands was the top supplier with 2,157 tons, followed by Germany (2,032 tons).
The country’s ABS imports in August fell by around 34% on the month and 9% on the year to reach 7,423 tons. The Netherlands was at the top of the ABS import list at 2,470 tons, followed by Belgium (1,578 tons).
Meanwhile, total PET imports rose by around 2% on a monthly basis in August while they were up by more than 17% year on the year at 50,402 tons. China became the top PET supplier to Italy with 13,662 tons, followed by India (8,058 tons) and South Korea (7,734 tons).
