Japan’s Tosoh to upgrade naphtha cracker

According to Reuters, Japan’s chemical maker Tosoh Corp will upgrade its 527,000 tons/year naphtha cracker in Yokkaichi by 2020, with an investment of $88 million.
The upgrade will involve installing a large scale furnace, which is expected to improve efficiency and decrease costs while enabling the cracker to produce the same amount of ethylene with less feedstock naphtha.
Meanwhile, Tosoh is planning to keep its naphtha import volumes at current levels.
