According to data from Japan’s trade ministry, the country’s industrial production rose 0.8% month over month in June following a decrease of 2.1% in May to beat economists’ initial estimates, which called for a gain of 0.3%.

However, it was reported that companies are still maintaining their cautious stance while manufacturers remain under pressure from sluggish demand in Japan and the ongoing slowdown in China.

Japan’s government is planning to release its gross domestic product (GDP) data for the second quarter on August 17. In a survey conducted by Bloomberg, economists’ preliminary expectations called for a growth rate of 0.8% for the April-June period.
