Japan’s naphtha imports fall 18% on year in May

According to media reports, data from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed that the country’s naphtha imports for petrochemical production declined by 18% while imports of naphtha for ethylene production fell to 1.054 million tons in May from 1.286 million tons in the same month of 2015. On a monthly basis, Japan’s naphtha imports rose about 4.5% compared with April’s 1.009 million tons.

On a value basis, meanwhile, the total import value for naphtha slumped around 42% on the year to around $409 million in May from $708 million in the same month of the previous year.
