LATEST NEWS: China's April polymer imports fall 24% on month, 17% on year

According to data from ChemOrbis Import Statistics, China’s April polymer imports recorded a monthly decrease of nearly 24% to be reported at 1,479,895 tons, indicating the lowest monthly volume since February 2018.

When compared to the same month of 2021, on the other hand, polymer imports in April were down by 17%.

The top five polymer exporters to China in April were Saudi Arabia (222,399 tons), South Korea (187,611 tons), the United Arab Emirates (185,424 tons), and Singapore (142,225 tons), and Iran (139,561 tons).

HDPE

In product-based breakdown, China’s total HDPE imports in April retreated 33% from March to be reported at 410,651 tons. On a yearly comparison, they also posted a 24.5% decrease.

The United Arab Emirates was the top HDPE supplier of China in April with 90,038 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (86,559 tons), and Iran (60,355 tons).

LLDPE

China’s LLDPE imports fell nearly 21% on a month-over-month basis to be reported at 349,545 tons in April. Compared to the same month of 2021, they were also down by 20%.

Singapore was the top LLDPE supplier to China with 75,505 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (71,692 tons) and Iran (35,373 tons).

LDPE

China’s April LDPE imports decreased 25.5% compared to March to stand at 220,557 tons while they also fell nearly 14% yearly.

Iran remained the top LDPE supplier to China with 43,833 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (29,997 tons) and Qatar (27,658 tons).

HOMO-PP

China’s total imports for homo-PP in April were down by around 17% on the month to stand at 210,750 tons. On a yearly comparison, meanwhile, they posted a decrease of 11%.

South Korea remained the top homo-PP supplier to China with 47,426 tons, followed by the United Arab Emirates (29,419 tons) and Saudi Arabia (26,142 tons).

PP COPOLYMER

In April, China’s PP copolymer imports were down by 14% from the previous month to be reported at 105,637 tons. When compared to the same month of last year, on the other hand, they increased by 7%.

Singapore became China’s top PP copolymer supplier in April with 37,601 tons, followed by Taiwan (19,954 tons) and South Korea (16,486 tons).

PVC

China’s total PVC imports in April edged down by around 2% compared to March to stand at 27,551 tons. On a year-over-year comparison, on the other hand, they soared by 23%.
Taiwan remained China’s top PVC supplier in this period with 13,493 tons, followed by Japan (8,645 tons) and the United States (4,024 tons).

PS

China’s imports for PS lost around 18% in April on a monthly basis to be reported at 43,430 tons. When compared to the same month of 2021, meanwhile, they were down by 35%.

Malaysia became the top PS exporter to China with 9,580 tons, followed by Taiwan (7,994 tons).

ABS

China’s total ABS imports in April fell 16% from last month to be reported at 105,744 tons while they also lost 9% from the same period of last year.

Taiwan was again at the top of the ABS import list with 46,848 tons, followed by South Korea (30,822 tons).
