LATEST NEWS: China’s total polymer imports jump in March
March data indicate the highest monthly volume since 2001 when ChemOrbis began keeping records. Meanwhile, China imported nearly six million tons of polymers in the first quarter of 2019, data also suggest.
The top five polymer exporters to China in March were Saudi Arabia (415,600 tons), Iran (228,500 tons), South Korea (228,188 tons), Taiwan (198,350 tons) and Singapore (175,422 tons). In the first three months of the year, China’s total polymer imports from Saudi Arabia rose above 1.1 million tons.
In product-based breakdown, China’s HDPE imports in March surged around 31% from a month earlier to be reported at 696,724 tons. On a yearly basis, they were up by 4.5%. Saudi Arabia was the top HDPE supplier to China with 197,767 tons, followed by Iran (125,726 tons).
LLDPE imports were 22% higher on a month over month basis to be reported at 470,483 tons in March. When compared to the same month of 2018, they also climbed by around 15%. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier to China with 120,944 tons, followed by Singapore (96,135 tons) and Thailand (64,078 tons).
LDPE imports jumped 29% in March when compared to the previous month to reach 289,149 tons. On a yearly basis, they were also up by 9.4%. Iran was the top LDPE supplier to China with 64,559 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (39,829 tons) and Qatar (30,968 tons).
Imports for homo-PP fell almost 5% year over year in March while they climbed around 36% from a month earlier to be reported at 287,244 tons. South Korea was at the top of the homo-PP import suppliers’ list with 67,786 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (43,326 tons) and Singapore (25,977 tons).
PP copolymer imports increased 13% year over year in March while they jumped around 40% from a month earlier to be reported at 128,506 tons. Taiwan was the top exporter to China with 37,169 tons, followed by Singapore (31,860 tons) and South Korea (19,470 tons).
China’s March PVC imports were up by around 5% to be reported at 66,973 tons while they posted a significant increase of 58% on the month. The US stood at the top of the March PVC import list with 38,617 tons, followed by Taiwan (14,102 tons) and Japan (8,945 tons).
Imports for PS rose 13% from a year earlier to 63,637 tons in March while they were also up by 20% from the earlier month. Taiwan was the top PS exporter to China with 17,369 tons, followed by Hong Kong (9,708 tons) and Singapore (7,998 tons).
China’s March ABS imports posted a monthly increase of 36.5% to be reported at 138,848 tons. On a yearly comparison, on the other hand, they were down by 8%. Taiwan was at the top of the ABS import list 67,598 tons, followed by South Korea (40,523 tons).
