LATEST NEWS: Turkey’s total polymer imports up on month and year in May
The top polymer exporters to Turkey were Saudi Arabia with 101,990 tons, followed by Korea (64,923 tons), the USA (35,319 tons), Egypt (31,833 tons) and Iran (22,709 tons) in the 5th month of 2019.
HOMO-PP
In May, homo-PP imports gained around 14% to 167,000 tons compared to April. They were also up by 10.5% from the same month of 2018. Saudi Arabia remained as the top homo-PP exporter in May with 64,110 tons, followed by South Korea (24,399 tons), Egypt (23,568 tons), India (11,870 tons), Greece (6,152 tons) and Israel (5,976 tons).
PP COPOLYMER
For PP copolymer, Turkey’s May imports gained 3% on month and spiked 32% on year at 33,000 tons. South Korea was the top supplier with 11,780 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (7,490 tons).
LLDPE
Imports for LLDPE inched up by 2% at 52,000 tons in May on a monthly basis, while they climbed by 6% year-on-year. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier of Turkey with 16,592 tons, followed by the USA (17,068 tons).
Turkey’s May mLLDPE imports declined by 20% both on month and year to 4,000 tons. The USA became the top supplier with 1,367 tons, followed by the UAE (1,075 tons).
LDPE
May imports for LDPE rose by almost 9% to 25,000 tons. The figure was flat on the year, meanwhile. Turkey’s top supplier was Azerbaijan for another month with 4,268 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (3,285 tons) and Iran (2,819 tons).
HDPE
Imports for HDPE in May were down by 2% from April to 48,000 tons, while they dropped by 13% from a year earlier. Saudi Arabia remained the top exporter of Turkey with 8,786 tons, followed by Iran (7,991 tons) and the USA (5,823 tons).
PVC
Turkey’s May PVC imports were up by nearly 7.5% from a month earlier but retreated by 9% year-on-year to around 58,000 tons. Top suppliers of Turkey were France, the USA and South Korea with respective volumes of 13,164 tons, 8,193 tons and 7,405 tons.
PS
Turkey imported 16,514 tons of PS in May, up by 16% on the month. The figure was almost flat amid a marginal softening of 0.6% on the year. Belgium remained the top exporter with 8,418 tons.
ABS
ABS imports in May surged by 27% on month and by 17% on year to 14,000 tons. South Korea remained the top supplier with 8,172 tons.
EPS
In May, Turkey’s EPS imports gained around 3% on the month but plunged by 45% from May 2018 to 3,479 tons. Taiwan overtook Austria’s place to become Turkey’s top supplier with 985 tons.
PET
Meanwhile, Turkey’s May imports for PET bottle declined by 18% month over month but increased climbed by 15% on a yearly basis to 11,465 tons. China overtook Pakistan’s place and became the top exporter of Turkey 8,418 tons.
