Local acetylene based PVC prices move higher in China

According to players in China, local acetylene based PVC prices witnessed increases this week as demand has reportedly improved a bit after the Chinese New Year holidays.
A source from an acetylene based PVC producer reported that they implemented an increase of CNY70/ton ($11/ton) on their prices as of today, bringing their new offers to CNY4900/ton ($643/ton without VAT) on an ex-warehouse China, cash basis. The source stated that they are still open to negotiations for serious buyers.
A source from a second local producer stated, “Acetylene based PVC prices have increased around CNY200-300/ton ($31-46/ton) since the end of the Chinese New Year holidays. We feel that demand is improving slightly as most buyers are returning to the market.”
A third producer also stated that local acetylene based PVC prices have been on a firming trend since last week. A source from the producer commented, “Demand is better when compared to the pre-holiday period, but many buyers are still cautious about making fresh purchases. We believe that the market will see higher levels in the coming days. However, increase amounts may not be as large as sellers expect.”
A trader active in Shanghai reported that local acetylene based PVC prices have witnessed increases of around CNY200/ton ($31/ton) since the end of the holidays. “Producer’s generally have low inventory levels as they were able to sell some tonnages before the holidays. We are feeling optimistic about our prospects for the near term,” he stated.
Acetylene based PVC prices are currently reported at CNY4900-5300/ton on an ex-warehouse China, cash equivalent basis ($643-695/ton without VAT). According to ChemOrbis Price Index, the range indicates increases of around CNY100/ton ($16/ton) on a week over week basis.
Meanwhile, acetylene based PVC offers were reported in Southeast Asian markets this week at $705-715/ton CIF, cash. An acetylene based PVC producer, who lifted their offers by $10/ton to Southeast Asia, commented, “We are receiving a good number of inquiries from Vietnam nowadays while the Malaysian market remains quiet. We are still willing to give discounts to customers who purchase large quantities.”
