Local and import PP, PE prices announced in UAE for January

Local and import offers polyolefin prices in the United Arab Emirates extended gains into the first week of 2021. For PE grades, the amount of increases was softer from last month while PP offers saw larger gains amid tighter availability for certain grades.

Local LDPE film prices surge the most as compared to other grades

January offers for domestic LLDPE C4 film and HDPE inj. film were higher by around $50-60/ton from last month at CIF Dubai $1150/ton and $1160/ton FD Dubai, cash, respectively. LDPE film grades saw a larger gain of $110-120/ton and the latest offers stood at $1390/ton CIF Dubai. The domestic producer did not offer HDPE film and HDPE b/m materials.

Domestic PP market surges on reports of production issues

As for PPH, the local producer’s new offers surged by $200/ton over last month, bringing the latest prices to $1270/ton for raffia and inj., $1290/ton for film and $1300/ton for fibre. PPBC inj. offers were similarly higher, increasing by around $160-180/ton from December to be reported at $1310/ton. The sharp increases were largely attributed to tighter allocations from the local producer, reportedly stemming from production issues.

Saudi major announces triple-digit hikes for PP grades for January

New PPH offers from a major Saudi producer were similarly higher from December. The latest offers were $170-180/ton firmer at $1280/ton for PPH raffia and inj., $1310/ton for PPH fibre and $1320/ton for PPB inj., all on CIF Dubai, 90 days basis.

Import LLDPE C4 film and HDPE grades see modest monthly gains

The producer’s new offers for LLDPE C4 film and HDPE grades, meanwhile, were slightly higher by around $20-30/ton from last month. LDPE film offers increased the most, up by around $160/ton over December. The latest offers were at $1430/ton for LDPE film, $1120/ton for LLDPE C4 film, $1130/ton for HDPE film, and $1140/ton for HDPE inj. and b/m., with the same terms.

Demand moderate as COVID-19 cases continue to rise

According to market players, demand is at moderate levels and is picking up gradually after the year-end holidays. The Gulf nation has recently reported the highest daily infections since the start of the outbreak. On the other hand, the country is reportedly offering vaccines free of charge for its residents and has so far vaccinated 8% of its population.
