According to local media reports, LyondellBasell is planning to build a new PE plant at one of its sites in southern Texas, USA. The company’s CEO Bob Patel reported to a local media source that the place where the proposed plant will be built is not clear yet, but its regional sites near Matagorda and Victoria are among the possibilities, adding that an announcement regarding the addition of more PE capacity is likely to come later this year. LyondellBasell aims to benefit from low-cost ethane and natural gas as feedstock in the manufacturing of chemicals and plastics.

Patel also said that LyondellBasell is also planning to expand its ethylene plant at its Channelview complex by the end of August, which is expected to increase the facility’s capacity by 250 million lbs/year (115,000 tons/year), bringing the site’s total ethylene capacity to 4.1 billion lbs/year (1.9 million tons/year).

Meanwhile, the company is currently conducting ethylene expansion works at its Corpus Christ plant, which is expected to increase the plant capacity by 800 million lbs/year (365,000 tons/year). The expansion is projected to be completed by the middle of 2016.
