Malaysia’s industrial output increases in May

According to data from Malaysia Statistics Department, Malaysia’s industrial production increased by 4.6% in May on the year from an increase of 4.2% recorded in the previous month. This beat the economists’ expectations of a rise of 4.1%.

The monthly rise in May was attributed to the increases in the manufacturing and electricity indices by 7.3% and 2.5%, respectively.

Among the sub-sectors, the largest increases were recorded in food, beverage and tobacco (12.9%), electrical and electronic products (11.6%) as well as petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (3.1%).
