According to data from Malaysia’s Department of Statistics, the country’s consumer inflation rate climbed 2.7% on the year in December due to higher prices for some goods and services, including alcoholic beverages, tobacco, food and health. The increase was in line with economists’ expectations.

The consumer price index (CPI) increased 2.7% in December to 114.8 compared with 111.8 in the same month of 2014 while remaining unchanged on a monthly basis. The CPI for 2015, meanwhile, rose 2.1% from 2014.
