Malaysia’s manufacturing PMI contracts further in February

According to a survey by Nikkei and Markit Economics, a Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for Malaysia contracted further in February from the previous month, declining to a reading of 47.8 from January’s 48.6. Any reading above 50 indicates an expansion while any figure below 50 represents a contraction.

The decrease was attributed to a decrease in new orders stemming from weak domestic demand and poor market conditions. New export orders, however, rose at the sharpest rate since last October.
