Malaysia’s manufacturing sector continues to shrink in Dec

According to data from IHS Markit, Malaysia’s manufacturing activity shrank in December for the twenty first month in a row. Accordingly, the country’s Nikkei manufacturing PMI stood at 47.1 in December and remained unchanged from the reading in November. However, any reading below 50 represents a contraction.

The decrease in December was attributed to the fall in output and new orders as well as in new job creation.

The data also showed that the weakening of Malaysian ringgit caused input prices to go up and, as a result, selling prices to rise for the second month.
