According to media reports, Oman International Petrochemical Industries Company (OMPET), a joint venture between Oman Oil Company (50%), LG International Inc. (30%) and Takamul Investment Company (20%) will use BP’s technology to build a new PTA unit at Sohar, Oman. The proposed unit is slated to have a production capacity of 1 million tons/year of PTA.

Under the new licensing agreement, BP’s first technology licensing deal in Middle East, BP will provide a wide range of technical and knowledge transfer services to OMPET and they have also committed to provide assistance to Omani staff within the OMPET joint venture. BP reportedly also completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) package for the license and delivered it to OMPET on time.
