According to a buyer in Germany, European PVC producer Vinnolit resumed operation at its facility in Knapsack, Germany. However, the company was not available for confirmation at the time of publication.
The company had declared a force majeure on its S-PVC and caustic soda supplies from the site following a shutdown due to a technical glitch early last month while it’s not yet known whether the force majeure remains in place or not.
The source commented, “Supply is back to normal as Vinnolit resumed operations. We didn’t face any issue in securing our needs from Shin Etsu either. As for the September outlook, we think that suppliers will try to ask for €20/ton increases.”
Shin Etsu has recently restarted its 450,000 tons/year PVC plant at Pernis while force majeure remained in place as the company said in an earlier statement that they are not going to lift the force majeure until Shell lifts the force majeure on ethylene supplies from Moerdijk. Shin-Etsu secures ethylene for its PVC production from Shell’s Moerdijk plant.
