S Korea’s Hanwha acquires Samsung General and Samsung Total

According to media reports, South Korea’s Hanwha Group has finalized the acquisition of Samsung’s petrochemical affiliates Samsung General Chemicals and Samsung Total Petrochemicals and renamed the companies as Hanwha General Chemicals and Hanwha Total Petrochemicals.

Through the acquisitions, Hanwha has become the largest petrochemical company in South Korea with total sales of 19 trillion won (US$17.69 billion). It is followed by LG Chemical and Lotte Chemical on the list of South Koerea’s largest chemical companies. Following the acquisitions, Hanwha’s ethylene production is expected to increase to 2.91 million tons/year.
