According to media reports, South Korea’s SK Global and Saudi Arabia’s SABIC formally opened their 50:50 joint venture PE plant in Ulsan on October 8. The joint venture between the two companies, SABIC SK Nexlene (SSNC), was headquartered in Singapore and was established in July. The new plant has a production capacity of 230,000 tons/year of high performance PE grades. The new PE is reported to be more shock-resistant, transparent, machine-friendly and hygienic than traditional PE, according to SK.

SK Global has also reported that they are planning to build another petrochemical plant in Saudi Arabia to increase their annual production capacity to 1 million tons per year.

Through the cooperation with global companies, SK aims to improve their current positions in global markets. As part of these efforts, SK Global has so far established joint ventures with China’s Sinopec, Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy, and Spain’s Repsol.
