According to market sources, South Korea’s Samsung SDI has shut one of the lines at its ABS plant in Yeosu owing to negative production margins. The line has a production capacity of 90,000 tons/year, while the entire plant can produce 560,000 tons/year of ABS.

The line is slated to be restarted in January 2016 if ABS production margins improve. In China, given the prevailing spot styrene, butadiene and ACN prices, theoretical cost calculations suggest that spot ABS prices are currently standing below the breakeven point in China.
