According to Statistics Korea, South Korea’s manufacturing PMI continued to contract further in January after December. Accordingly, the country’s manufacturing PMI stood at 49 in January, after a reading of 49.4 in December. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion while any reading below 50 represents contraction.

The further decline in the country’s manufacturing was mainly driven by a sharper fall in output, new orders and input prices. Employment was also down although it was not a significant fall.

It was also reported that South Korea’s industrial production fell by 0.5% on the month in December following an increase of 3.6% in November. On a yearly basis, however, the country’s industrial production increased further by 4.3% in December after an increase of 5.3% in November.
