According to market sources, South Korean Hanwha Total Petrochemical shut its naphtha-fed steam cracker as well as its No 1 styrene and butadiene units in Daesan due to a lightning strike on July 17.

The cracker has a production capacity of 1 million tons/year ethylene and 600,000 tons/year propylene while the styrene and butadiene plants have a respective production capacity of 400,000 tons/year and 114,000 tons/year.

It is not yet known how long the shutdown will last, although some claim that repairs will take up to 3 days.
