Players in Tunisia and Algeria reported that they received August PP and PE prices from a Saudi major.

In Tunisia, a trader reported that the Saudi major’s August prices indicate rollovers to $30-40/ton decreases for PE while suggesting $30-50/ton decreases for PP when compared to July levels. According to the trader, the new offers stand at €1210/ton for LDPE film, at €1120-1130/ton for LLDPE film, at €1140/ton for HDPE film and at €950-970/ton for PP homo raffia and injection, all on a CIF Tunisia, 90 days deferred payment basis.

The trader opined, “Supplies are not problematic and demand is quite slow in the market. We are cautious on our purchases since demand for our end product has been faltering in the last few months. We expect that prices will remain steady also in September and demand will not witness any significant improvement.”

A trader operating in Algeria reported receiving the Saudi major’s August PP and PE prices with rollovers to $10/ton decreases from July. Accordingly, the Saudi major offers LLDPE injection at $1350-1370/ton, LLDPE film at $1280/ton, LDPE film at $1290/ton, HDPE film at $1280-1300/ton and PP homo raffia and injection at $1100/ton, all on a CIF Algeria, 90 days deferred payment basis.

The trader said, “The import market activity is nearly muted due to slow demand on end products which makes players reluctant to make purchases. Players make purchases based on their needs or in very limited quantities. We are waiting to hear news from our new producer but we are not expecting competitive results given the high exchange rates and economic problems stemming from lower crude oil prices. Still, the existence of the producer, who is supposed to produce HDPE materials, in the market might solve any shortage problem.”
