Several PE shutdowns planned in China during Mar-April

A trader operating in China reported that several PE plants will be shut for maintenance in the upcoming months, especially in the March-April period, resulting in the loss of PE supplies to the market.

According to the trader, Zhongmei Yulin will shut its 300,000 tons/year LLDPE line at the end of March for thirty days. During the shutdown, around 24, 700 tons of materials will be taken out of the market.

CNPC Fushun Petrochemical will shut its old HDPE line with 80,000 tons/year production capacity and its new HDPE line with 350,000 tons/year production capacity along with its LLDPE line with 450,000 tons/year production capacity. The shutdown which will start on May 10 to last for 45 days will cause a loss of 55,000 tons of HDPE and 57,000 tons of LLDPE materials from the market.

A shutdown will occur at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Company Limited’s 270,000 tons/year HDPE line and 230,000 tons/year LLDPE line in April for 45 days. Around 33,000 tons of HDPE and 28,300 tons of LLDPE materials will be taken away from the market during the shutdown.

Sinopec Qilu Company will shut its LLDPE line, LDPE line as well as the old and the new HDPE lines with production capacities of 120,000 tons/year, 140,000 tons/year and 140,000 tons/year, 250,000 tons/year, respectively. Starting from the end of April, the shutdown will last for 45 days. Around 14,500 tons of LLDPE, 17,300 LDPE and 47,800 tons of HDPE will be lost from the market.

Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited will shut its two PE units. The one with 250,000 tons/year of production capacity will be shut for 15 days on March 21 - April 5 while 200,000 tons/year of production capacity will be shut for a month on April 5 – May 2.

CNPC Sichuan Petrochemical will shut its 300,000 tons/year HDPE line and 300,000 tons/year HDPE/LLDPE line in December for a month. Each plant will lose 24,000 tons of material during the shutdowns.

Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Company Limited will shut its 200,000 tons/year LDPE line while Sinopec Fujian’s PE unit will also be shut in April for 30 days. Details of both these shutdowns are not known yet at the time of press.
