Germany’s Daimler Group, BMW, Volkswagen and Japanese Toyota will suspend production at their European plants due to the health concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic and lower demand.

BMW is readying to shut down production at its factories in Europe by the end of this week, the company announced. The shutdowns will last until April 19. BMW has three plants in the UK and eight car and motorcycle plants in Germany.

Daimler Group also announced that it is preparing to suspend most of its European plants for an initial period of two weeks. The German carmaker’s shutdown is set to kick off this week at its factories in Germany, France and Hungary.

Furthermore, Japanese Toyota Group announced that it will stop production temporarily at all of its European plants in phases. Burnaston and Deeside plants in the UK as well as its factory in Onnaing, France already suspended production yesterday, market sources reported.
