According to media reports, Royal Dutch Shell has inked a deal with Iraq in order to build a petrochemical plant. The deal is reportedly valued at around $11 billion. Shell intends to construct a world scale cracker derivative complex near Basra in southern Iraq.

The planned petrochemical complex, named Nibras, is expected to come online in five or six years and will reportedly be one of the largest such facilities in the Middle East once completed.
Shell had signed a memorandum of understanding with Iraq for the Nibras project in 2012.
