Shell shuts its cracker in Bukom, Singapore

Market sources reported that Shell shut its steam cracker in Bukom, Singapore on October 14 due to a technical issue. The cracker has a production capacity of 960,000 tons/year of ethylene while Bukom also houses a 155,000 tons/year butadiene extraction unit.

Sources reported that the shutdown at the cracker affected the company’s styrene production in nearby Jurong Island; however no details were given as to what extent other production units were affected by the shutdown.

The company has two styrene plants in Jurong Island, with production capacities of 550,000 tons/year unit and 390,000 tons/year unit, according to market sources.
