Shell to expand its Louisiana petrochemical complex

According to media reports, Shell is planning to expand its petrochemical complex in Geismar, Louisiana, the US as the company aims to produce more chemicals through the use of low-cost shale gas. The estimated investment cost was reported at a $717 million.

Shell is expected to begin the expansion works in the first quarter of 2016, which will reportedly include the addition of a fourth production unit to the site. Once the expansion is completed, the Geismar complex’s total capacity will increase by 425,000 tons/year to reach 1.3 million tons/year.
